My friend Anthony just put me up on this video and thank god cause it is amazing! At first glance it may seem repetitious and formulaic but if you follow close you'll see the little changes that make it fantastic. And then the fire at the end! The fire man. Awesome. The whole thing is a deep substantial metaphor about life and love or something like that. Anyway check it out!

Love this, it has that Road to Zion deep sort of feel to it.

Sample is ill and subject matter is definitely cool. But I'm prob biased cause I feel like I HAVE to like this album! How can you not?

Info After the Jump...

Back in December of 07 I made this mix that combined Jay Acapellas from American Gangster with Amazing Ethiopian music, mostly oldschool jazz stuff, but some newer music as well.
.
I put it together in about a week and a half cause there were so many people doing mixes at the time and I didn't wanna get lost in the fold.
It actually turned out waaay better than I initially invisioned and people seemed to like it a whole lot. But I guess I did do a pretty terrible job of marketing it, which is sad :( Oh well - On to the next one!
.
In the meantime, it hasn't really lost its relevance so I can hopefully still get people to download it and listen!
.
What I love about it is the clash of cultures that it represents. I think a lot of us out here need this sort of thing because we're already so multicultural and it's dope to see and hear things that reflect who we are.
.
I LOVE the samples I used...a lot of it was Ethiopian joints from the 60s and 70s, amazing stuff I shamefully didn't know jack about growing up--Gonna put a mix of them up for download one of these days.

Man this video is Intense! Be prepared- it's REALLY graphic. In fact-I'll say if you don't wanna see people getting shot and being blown up stop watching now. The visuals are amazing though and the topic is very....very--how do I say--introspective?

See this is what is cool about M.I.A...she's not afraid to express herself how she wants even though it's not gonna get her the popular success that she could easily have at this point. LOVE that!

The Wake

This is a piece I had the pleasure of working on with my good friend Elmo who is a fantastic Poet {and blogger for that matter} He wrote the poem then I illustrated it and it worked out great cause they just meshed into one expressive whole. Lol, Not gonna say too much, as always.

For any new visitors: Hello-I'm Effi Ibok ---producer.artist.confusedwanderer extroadinaire--- and Sleepwake is a blog where I can share things I produce as well as other cool things that I see on the internet and the world at large. For any returning, there is and will be a lot of new stuff---

New interface, LOTS of new cool stuff to look at (+ more to come) and new contributors (hopefully)!

You know, I think I get the wrap as being unproductive/lazy but in truth, I'm kind of a workaholic and VERY, almost dangerously, obsessed with the things I do (creating stuff). Dopest Show Ever

Just got back from this. Wale killed it-bringin out Jcole at the end-who also killed it! Knaan was FANTASTIC and bringin out Nas and Damien was was such a crazy and welcomed surprise! Man this would've been the perfect show for Elmosince87 since he's been talking about all these guys recently. But I graciously accept his jealousy and the new point on our experience scoreboard. Yes, I believe it's Sleepwake: 1, Elmosince87: 0 lol.
