Get Real, Get Right
Get Real, Get Right from Asthmatic Kitty on Vimeo.
I really doubt the increase in using stop-motion for music videos in the indie music world is a secret. It's fairly obvious if you just surf around a couple minutes on Stereogum or Pitchfork.
But I mean, it makes sense - they're dirt cheap and you can create some really good visuals if you put in the time.
I guess what I'm tryna say is; I'm sorry for posting so many of these types of videos recently, but shut up and enjoy! lol
Anyway this is a good piece so I'm sure there are no complaints.

Always really respected these guys and continue to.
Their style does get a bit dull from time to time, but I for some reason I just like them.
This is from their first album in 5 years If Not Now, When? which just came out this month.
Ill visuals right?

Sleepwake Summer 2
Sleepwake summer is here again!
We're just about halfway through this lovely season (the way I see it) so that means plenty more opportunities to both enjoy and curse the sun, lay around with nothing to do, frolic with those you love and lust and just basically enjoy scaling back on whatever you normally do with no guilt involved.
Anyway, I made this little playlist to serve as a soundtrack to your movements, or at least to provide an alternative to whatever sequence of songs you've been wearing out all summer (cause god knows we all over-do it when it comes to music).
As a disclaimer, its not a mix-tape that has any one context. It's eclectic because its made to suit any situation in which you may find yourself and spans genres as much as emotions because I think this is a basic necessity for any musical experience.
Hope you enjoy it, and happy sun season to you! Wherever you are, or whenever your sun might come out!

Runaway
For many reasons I think Kanye's Runaway 'film' was pretty bad.
It was put together like a bad film school production that somehow magically had a good director of photography. The shots were extremely cinematically pleasing but the acting was ugly, the themes didn't connect, and the whole thing was just kinda awkward in general.
That said, this part of it is really something special. I really respect this.
The combination of ballet dancers and hip-hop in this way is refreshingly novel, the tempo is executed flawlessly, and the visuals are beyond beautiful!
Just thought I'd post this as a reminder why we love Kanye! Cause god knows we need it sometimes.

I'm not as wild about this guy as everyone else seems to be right now.Aside from the Odd Future affiliation he doesn't seem to me to be that much of a departure from standard R&B artists. Wasn't really feelin Nostalgia like that either :-\
But I do like this song and this is a dope video. Nice concept and well-filmed.

Van Gogh

"The sadness will last forever"
Every once in a while I think we need little reminders why most of the people we consider historically 'great' are worthy of our admiration.
This guy was really something else!
He produced some of the best and most unique work I think the world will ever see, and yet died relatively unknown, poor, depressed, and was even considered by many to be mentally ill.
And yet, all you can see in the work in life. Even the monotonous pieces bleed positive energy; energy I wouldn't quite call happiness, but more a celebration of existence and feeling in a way hardly any other artist has been, or will ever be capable of. I find it hard to believe that even non art-appreciators could miss this special feeling that his works convey.
It's something to aspire to for real.
Anyway, check out his pieces and skim through his bio when you get the chance. You def won't regret. He's dope!

Back
Sup people!
As you can see- Sleepwake is back up again and will be a little more consistent from now on (I'm sorry for the sketchiness but times are hard)
Aside from the simplified layout, and change of address (replaced "dream" with "blog") not much is different. The main change is that I've separated my personal work from the site (Check my stuff out here)
so now it'll basically be me and others posting interesting things we come across online and in the world- mainly to entertain you poor souls in your days of boredom but also to share and bookmark some important material that can maybe help us all become a little more useful as human beings in this crazy world.
Anyway, gonna stop the yip-yap and get back to work!
Thanks for being, and for being here
Come again!
